About Bradford-on-Avon
Bradford on Avon is a Wiltshire town near the Somerset border, with a parish population of 10,405 at the 2021 census. The centre grew up around the broad ford across the River Avon that gave the town its name, and in Norman times the ford was joined by the stone bridge that still stands: the Town Bridge and Chapel is Grade I listed, and the small building on it, first a chapel, was later the town lock-up. The river powered the wool mills that made the town rich — its 17th-century buildings date from the most successful years of the cloth trade, and around thirty mills were built before the industry moved to Yorkshire; the last closed in 1905. The Saxon church of St Laurence may have been founded by St Aldhelm around 705, and the 14th-century tithe barn is also Grade I listed.
Bradford-on-Avon today
The town’s canal, historic buildings, shops, pubs and restaurants make it popular with visitors, and its main business is shopping, tourism and serving local families, commuters and retired people. It is the headquarters of the Alex Moulton bicycle company; the Kennet and Avon Canal runs through the town beside the railway, whose Grade II listed station building is by Brunel; and the tithe barn is part of Barton Farm Country Park. St Laurence School is the town’s secondary school, the Wiltshire Music Centre in its grounds is a 300-seat concert hall, and the town has been a filming location for Wolf Hall and The White Princess. Moving in, clearing out or between homes — our Southwick yard is about 7 minutes away.
From a locker to a 20 ft container
Units run from 15 sq ft to a 160 sq ft (20 ft) container. As a rough guide: 15 to 20 sq ft takes boxes, a bike or the contents of a box room; 29 to 40 sq ft a one-bedroom flat or a garage clear-out; 80 sq ft the contents of a two- or three-bedroom house; 160 sq ft a large family home or business stock. Every card above shows the width, depth and height.
