The outdoor units are insulated steel containers on the ground floor with 24/7 drive-up access; the lower-cost units are inside an access-controlled building, on the hours shown on each unit.
About Chapmanslade
Chapmanslade is a Wiltshire village on the county border with Somerset, set between Westbury, Warminster and Frome. A ‘chapman’ was a travelling merchant or pedlar and a ‘slade’ a valley or glade, and the name has been used since at least the 14th century. The civil parish was established in 1934 from parts of Corsley, Dilton Marsh and Upton Scudamore — before that, the High Street formed the boundary between Corsley, historically part of Warminster, and Dilton Marsh, historically part of Westbury — and it includes the hamlets of Huntenhull Green, Short Street and Thoulstone. The principal local industries were weaving and agriculture.
Chapmanslade today
The High Street, a section of the A3098 between Westbury and Frome, runs for some 2 km, with the school and the parish church near its centre. The church of St Philip and St James was built in 1866–1867 to designs by G. E. Street, with stained glass by Clayton and Bell, and Street also designed the primary school next to it, which opened in 1872 as a National School. The village pub is the Three Horseshoes, and to the east Thoulstone Park, formerly a golf club and hotel, is now a restaurant and wedding venue. The educational pioneer and social reformer Clara Grant was born in the village. Moving in, clearing out or between homes — our Southwick yard is about 10 minutes away.
