Our yard is at Dillybrook Business Park, Southwick — about 13 minutes from Holt via the B3107, the A363 and the B3109. The outdoor units are insulated steel containers on the ground floor with 24/7 drive-up access; the lower-cost units are inside an access-controlled building, on the hours shown on each unit.

About Holt

Holt is a village in the west of Wiltshire, north-east of Bradford-on-Avon and south-west of Melksham, on a terrace just above the River Avon; its name is the Old English word for a wood. From about 1001 it was a tithing in the manor of Bradford, given by Æthelred the Unready to the Abbess of Shaftesbury. After a mineral spring was found in 1688, Holt Spa grew into a small resort by the 1780s, with the Spa House for treatments and the Great House for lodgings, though its heyday was over by 1790. Cloth-making was central to the village from the 14th century, and from the 1770s the Beaven family ran a leather dressing factory here that made linings for flying jackets and gloves for the RAF in the Second World War.

Holt today

The village centres on the B3107 between Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham. It has a village shop, which has also housed the post office since 2014, two pubs — the Tollgate Inn and the Old Ham Tree — and Holt Voluntary Controlled Primary School, and Holt Football Club, founded in 1864, is the oldest club in Wiltshire. The Courts, an early-18th-century house whose garden is an example of early-20th-century English garden style, is owned by the National Trust, and the Grade I listed Great Chalfield Manor is nearby. Glove Factory Studios, opened in 2008 in part of the old Beavens leather factory, is a workspace hub for start-ups, creative entrepreneurs and independent professionals. Moving in, clearing out or between homes — our Southwick yard is about 13 minutes away.

From a locker to a 20 ft container

Units run from 15 sq ft to a 160 sq ft (20 ft) container. As a rough guide: 15 to 20 sq ft takes boxes, a bike or the contents of a box room; 29 to 40 sq ft a one-bedroom flat or a garage clear-out; 80 sq ft the contents of a two- or three-bedroom house; 160 sq ft a large family home or business stock. Clearing a house, loft or garage in Holt? Pick the size and the move-in date that suit you, drive up to the door to load, and give two weeks’ notice when you’re done. There’s no deposit and no long-term contract, and no minimum stay — but a minimum of two weeks’ rent at full price applies.

For stock, tools, equipment or archive boxes, the outdoor containers have 24/7 drive-up access, so a van can load at the door at any hour. The 160 sq ft (20 ft) container takes business stock; 15 to 20 sq ft suits boxes.
