About Corsham
Corsham is a historic market town at the south-western edge of the Cotswolds, just off the A4, south-west of Chippenham. It was a centre for agriculture and later the wool industry, and it remains a focus for quarrying Bath Stone; numbers 94 to 112 of the High Street, Grade II* listed, are known as the Flemish Weavers Houses. Corsham Court, based on an Elizabethan manor house of 1582, has been part of the Methuen estate since 1745 and holds an extensive collection of Old Masters. During the Second World War and the Cold War the town became a major centre for the Ministry of Defence, with establishments above ground and in disused quarry and mine tunnels.
Corsham today
The small town centre includes the historic High Street and the Martingate Centre, and scenes for Poldark were filmed in the High Street from 2014. The Pound, run by the Pound Arts Trust, is an arts venue and community hub that organises two annual festivals: the Blue Sky Festival in June and the Magic and Mayhem Festival in November. MOD Corsham, at the former Basil Hill Barracks, accommodates about 2,100 people, and the eastern portal of Brunel’s Box Tunnel is at Hudswell, on the western edge of the town. The parish includes the villages of Gastard and Neston, where Neston Park is home to the Fuller family, who give their name to the Fuller, Smith and Turner brewery in London. Moving in, clearing out or between homes — our Southwick storage facility is about 20 minutes away.
